storybook farm is a place--we live here, in still pretty rural Hunterdon County, NJ. It's a highlands farm--rocky and hilly--not very good for growing crops. We manage the woodlands, and have pigs & chickens.
We make truly wonderful soaps & skincare products here at Storybook Farm. This is not bragging, it's a simple fact. We wouldn’t sell anything that we didn’t think was the best we could make. We use everything we make, & we listen to what our customers say about our products. We've been in business since 2001, so we've had plenty of feedback during those years, & plenty of time to refine our formulas.
We believe in local--we grow whatever we can, buy from local farmers, & whatever we can't get locally we buy from small family businesses, where we know the owners.
We believe in simple--if you look at our ingredients lists, most have around ten ingredients.
We believe in small-- creams & balms are made in batches of about a dozen, and soaps are produced in logs of fifteen bars.
And most of all, we believe in pleasure-- life is hard, & we all need the simple enjoyment of taking a morning shower using soap with a delightful scent & lots of bubbles, leaving us with soft skin. The pleasure of a soothing cream or balm, a soak in bath salts, or a sweetly scented room cannot be rated highly enough. Local, simple & small are worthless without pleasure.

Is Storybook Farm Natural?
There is no legal definition of natural in cosmetics, so what works for us is to use ingredients as close to the natural state as possible. We balance staying close to the source with environmental concerns, though. Sometimes, using a fragrance oil is better for the environment than an essential oil that is harvested in a damaging way. We label carefully so that people can check to make sure that there is nothing that will be problematic.
Is Storybook Farm Green?
We try our best. As we said before, we buy locally whenever we can, order from as close to home as possible to minimize transportation, we combine errands in the car, we use very little energy in making our soap, and we ship in recycled packing materials--that's why you might get a funky looking box in the mail from us.
Shipping
We try to ship within two business days after the order--we will let you know when item is shipped, and also if there will be a delay.
Return Policy
We generally don't accept returns since these are personal care items.
